Blog # 6 The Networked Student

This was a very interesting video. It explained in detail how students are to communicate with each other using the internet. It also shows the different ways student can use social networking systems and programs. I found this video to be very informative.

Before watching this video the question was asked, “Are you prepared to teacher of a networking student.”I believe that I will be ready to teach a networked student in t he near future, if I am correctly prepared. According to the video a teacher of a networking student does the following:

The teacher helps him build his network and take advantage of network opportunities. She offers guidance when it is needed. She also helps the student he gets stuck on a problem. Lastly, the teacher makes sure that her student has achieved proper communication skills, and knows when and how to ask for help. With the correct guidance and professional training, I believe that I will be ready to teach a networked student. It seems to be a great way to push any student into a world of technology and challenge them to become a better person.

C4K Summary 1,2 &3

So far my Comments for Kids experience has been wonderful. I am now aware of how brilliant children really are. Especially third graders! I feel as if my thinking has been challenged throughout this assignment.

My 1st Comment for Kids assignment was a little girl named Caylee. Caylee is from Vancouver Island. She loves music and how it can have an effect on moods and feelings. She is a bright child with a lovely future ahead of her. My next comment for kids assignment was a little girl named Laita, and she is from New Zealand. She enjoys writing, baseball and Cinderella.I really enjoyed reading her blog.

My last Comment for Kids assignment has to be the most shocking. Her name is Mary and she is from New England. Mary wrote about the earthquake in Christchurch. She described the scenery and also the destruction of the land. It was very sad. I learned how to relate to children while completing this assignment. I think we try to sound smart, that we forget how to just be a kid. Kids have simple mentalities with simple objectives. This assignment taught me how to simple and straight to the point.

Eagle Nest Radio and Class Blog

I really enjoyed listening to the third graders and their podcast. I had the pleasure of listening to the podcast after I created my own podcast I learned so much out of this video, that I could write a book. I did not know that I could use background music while creating a podcast. It helped to create a mental image and helped me to keep me focused while listening.

I learned that the Ancient Romans often fought for glory. It was almost as if they created different chapters to their podcast by changing the background music. It amazes me how much the music can influence emotion and mood while listening. I really felt like I traveled to Rome. This video taught me how to capture the attention of my listeners and also keep it. Overall I learned that podcasting does not only include talking but creating a visual effect for my viewers to enjoy.

Benefits of Podcasting

There are many positive benefits of podcasting inside the classroom. Podcast helps students to not only learn, but also teach how to each other using podcast. Podcast helps students to use higher order thinking skills. It also helps parents keep up with what is going on inside the classroom. I really enjoyed watching the small girl use the podcast while staying at home after catching a fever.

Since the children in today society are known as Millennium children, the podcast really relates to the way that they learn. Millennium children are kids who spend the majority of their time either on the internet or using the cell phones. Not only does podcasting allow children to learn new things, it also helps them to be created and innovative. I plan on using podcast in my classroom throughout the future. I believe it would really enhance my classroom by giving it many diverse ways of learning technological abilities.

100 Ways to Use Ipods and Study Better

The 100 ways to use Ipods and Study Better was very informative. It gave a lot of much needed information as well as websites that are great to use while creating a podcast. I learned that Google had a network that allows you to stay current on the news. I also learned about Ipod Spanish that could be used for multicultural students in any classroom. I also loved the Bible study application for the Ipod.

Throughout the blog post I learned many new and exciting things that I will take with me years to come. I enjoyed creating my podcast and spending time with my classmates. Not only did I learn about podcast during this time, but also team work. I am sure all of us have learned a lot while creating our podcast. We will take away something amazing form this class. This experience was amazing! 100 Ways to Use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better | The Best Article Every day

Don't teach Your Kids This Stuff, Please?

Scott McLeod’s is an Associate Professor in the Educational Administration program at Iowa State University. He is also the Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education(CASTLE). He is the author of Don’t Teach Your Kids This Stuff, Please?

I believe that he has a great influence in the education field. I could not help but to think of how Americans are lacking in the world in the education field while reading his blog. I think that it is because of our lack of urgency to equip of students with the education that they deserve. Yes, there is a risk of children to falling into the arms of predators while on the internet. But they could also be kidnapped while playing outside, or they could fall and scrape there knee. As an educator, precautions should be made in advance before releasing children into the world of technology. There should also be some type of restraint placed on the child while on the internet to ensure proper usage.

The iSchool

The iSchool video was very informative. I like the many different points that he made concerning the cost of high school. I believe that the concept is great, but putting it into action might take some time. I also believe that some type of testing program should be placed into effect before action takes place. This type of plan would show the numbers, cost and the overall progress of the iSchool .Although, the iSchool has the power to teach, I still believe in student to teacher contact. The I School would create responsibility and also maturity in high school students.

Overall I enjoyed the concept of the I School. It would affect the school system in a dynamic way. Not only would it save money, but also time and effort on disciplinary problems. The iSchool has the potential to transform the educational system and the technological lives of students all around the world.

The Lost Generation

This was a beautiful analogy of how a person can choose his or her own destiny. Anyone can believe the predictions that scientist or experts say about the future. While reading and being aware of what is being said, it is also important to turn the negative into the positive. At first glance, I was shocked by the statements. But after it was reversed, I realized the importance of perception and positive thinking. By choosing to use the negative as a sling shot that leads to the positive, I know the future is bright.

Yes, there are many problems in the world today. War, poverty, economic downfall, and other problems are singing loud in Americans ears today. We have two choices to these troubling problems. We can cut back, pray and support our troops on the front lines of war. Or we can choose to focus on the negative and live in fear of what the future holds. Anyone can worry, but it takes an important person to press forward and create a better future.

Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir - 'Lux Aurumque'

This was absolutely beautiful. The voices were amazing, and the strategy taken to make this performance possible was awesome. This was a good example of how technology can be used to make the world a better place. I think music is equivalent to medicine, it makes the soul heal.
It provokes many questions in my mind. Will plays and musicals in the future take a technological turn in the future? I really enjoyed the unity and beauty of this video. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this choir. I think this could be t he beginning of something great!

Teaching in the 21 Century
This video was very informative in showing the definition of teaching. Not only did it show me a better way to organize my thoughts, but also my future classroom. This video shows the importance of allowing students to think on their own. Critical thinking is a must in any classroom. Without encouraging student to venture out and explore and discover new possibilities,we would be brainless individuals without common sense.

The definition of "teach" is to direct and push the student into the correct direction. Sometimes teachers get so caught up on perfection, that they miss the importance of allowing the student to make mistakes. The only way for a child to learn is through mistakes then correction. This video shows the importance of challenging the child to think outside of the four walls of the classroom, and takes them on a field trip into the world,

A Vision of Students Today

I believe that this video was very true in showing what it is like as a college student today.
I really enjoyed watching this video. It really encouraged me to become a better student. I could relate to many of the statements what were being proclaimed. This video really gave a clear picture of what it is like being a student today. In my opinion college prepares you for many things, but it does not prepare you to be successful in the working world. A college education should give you many things including a worldview of your designated field .

I believe that the education system should give you some, if not all the skills that are needed to become a bright individual. I could relate too many of the statements that were in the video, including the one about purchasing multiple books without attempting to read them. Some teachers require you to use the books and others do not. Over the past two years of college I have learned that many students grasp the minimum amount to education needed to pass classes. Classroom sizes should be reduced and an emphasis should be placed on the future and the problems that occur in the world today.

It’s Not about the Technology

Kelly Himes really touched on many different viewpoints concerning technology in the classroom. I really enjoyed reading her viewpoint and I can agree with a lot that she stated. I agree with her stance concerning teacher becoming life- long learners. I really agree with her belief about the difference between teaching and learning. It is a very true statement.

Teachers should be able to use their brain power to captivate students and encourage them to want to learn more. But a teacher must also become a lifelong learner and be willing to explore and learn more each day. This was an eye opening blog post. It allowed me to not only think twice about technology, but also about the way I plan to teach one day in my classroom. But most of all I learned that it before anyone can teach they must become a wise student!

Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

It is so important to be technologically literate in today’s society. Many people believe that it is okay not to be able to read a text message, use a computer, or even work a CD player. From past experience I can say that yes, it is scary at first sight. But the end result is beautiful.

Many people are afraid of failure. So instead of branching out to learn something new, they choose to stay in the stone ages living in caves. As a future parent and teacher I think that technology literacy should be taught to every individual that has a desire to learn. This is important not only for this generation but also important to the children of tomorrow. Should a teacher be technologically illiterate? No, it should be mandatory that some type of test be created that could show the level of achievement before teaching.

Kelly Hines is the author of http://keepingkidsfirst.wordpress.com. She teaches 4th grade in Washington,North Carolina.I recently explored her website and found various information that is valuable to any readers that has a hunger for education.

Holiday Fun with web 2.0 is a great and innovative idea.I believe that this is a great deivce that can excite children and also create a better learning experience. It also creates a learning environment that is very organized and extremely high tech. With the use of pictures along with Facebook , student can now achieve an education that explores and achieves another level of greatness.

The Sum of th Parts was a blog post about using PLN's effectively. Kelly Hines explained it as parts versus a whole. She also explained how she has to stop using her PLN and how she managed to stay in contact with co- workers and friends via email. I really enjoyed reading her blog.My next assignment is to start my own PLN for the class.I am very excited to see who I will connect with in the near future by using this new technological system.I look forward to using everything I learn now in my career !
